Copying

Truth: The burger I posted in yesterday's Wordless Weekend is without a doubt the best veggie burger in the Twin Cities. Found at the one and only Joe's Garage. According to the menu this little gem is:

Southwestern Veggie black bean, corn & falafel with asiago, avocado, and pico de gallo in a flour tortilla with a side of chipotle ranch

Yep. Delish. So yesterday I went to TJ's to see if I couldn't do a decent copy of this non-burger in wrap.

Twenty Dollars worth of food

Shopping spree includes waffles, two packs of tofu, persian cucumbers, avocado, spinach tortillas, horseradish hummus, veg burgers, chocolate almond milk and marinara sauce. I love this shopping trip because I haven't boughten waffles in at least two years. It just sounded like a good idea at the time.

As for the horseradish hummus, that's okay. Not my favorite. I'm going to say good in moderation, but if you want to have more than two tablespoons of hummus in a single sitting I'd vote getting a less-intense flavor.

Okay. Anyways. Burger.

Veg burger with avocado, red peppers, onions and ketchup in a spinach tortilla. With almond milk.

The verdict? Definitely not the same thing, but I'm going to make a notion. All burgers should be served in wraps. Way better than buns. That way you can taste the veggies inside instead of just a mouthful of bread.

Questions

  1. I have only ever had a veggie burger once, and it was one that I made. I haven't had a burger out in ages, as I haven't really been a fan in ages either. I also ate it next to a salad, so no wrap was involved. Maybe it's something I should try again....

I love plain old traditional hummus, but I do like the flavoured kind on occasion. I went on a little hummus kick for a while, and kind of phased myself out on it. I have been craving it lately though. :)

  2. Though I'm a huge fan of my whole grains, I agree that those huge buns totally takes away from the burger.

  3. Maybe I'm boring, but I like just plain ol' hummus.

I love doing veggie burgers in wraps! I totally agree that it gives the best bread to burger ratio.

  4. I like plain or garlic flavored hummus the best. And I've never used a wrap on a burger! I like to use the sandwich thins now because they aren't as "bready" as a bun.

  5. I went to Bobby Flay's burger joint before I left Philly and it was incredible. I may have eaten more sweet potato fries than my burger, but it was still good.

  6. That sounds DELICIOUS! I'll have to drag my sister and her family there next time we visit them!

I don't get burgers often anymore, but there are a bunch of great places around here. I have to say though, my favorite recently is the veggie burger at STAND along with their toasted marshmallow milk shake! Okay, now I want to go there!
