Grilled Apples

I haven't posted in over a year. Before that, it was probably another year break. Here's what's going on: in order to avoid annoying my Twitter followers with a string of "Look what I ate!" tweets, I'll just start dabbling in this here blog for a bit.

Now, for a little bit of what I did on my summer vacation. I bought a house this spring, right here in the lovely state of Minnesota, and, in true Basil Vodka form, built myself a little garden. Probably one of the more disgusting things I've done in my life, in order for my garden to be organic I ended up buying a few hundred pounds of topsoil and cow poop. Oh yes, cow poop. It's a natural fertilizer, and apparently does pretty well. For my first harvest, I planted tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, jalapenos, orange bell peppers, hungarian sweet peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, gold zucchini, eggplant and butternut squash. I've basically just stopped grocery shopping because I can just grab snackskis straight from the garden.

My current stockpile.

Without further ado, the purpose of me needing to write this blog post: I grilled some apples. I love fall. Pumpkin, cinnamon, apples, all the goodies that we get for just a few weeks each year. It's starting to get a bit chilly, so I pulled up my boots, threw on a scarf and headed outside to the grill. I turned on two of the three burners, max heat, and waited patiently. I mean, not patiently. But I did wait. I had four apple halves, and grilled 3-4 minutes skin-side down and then another 4-5 minutes flesh-side down.

Grilled Apples & Granola

I could have gotten fancy and added some brown sugar, butter and cinnamon, but I was content with just the apples and some maple pecan granola.

Oh fall. I love you.
